Welcome to R-ev

Our first blog post of 2023.

The EV market in the UK is on a rapid rise, with the tail end of January 2023 revealing an all-time high of 13.1% of market share for brand new cars.

The UK Government has big plans to have fully transitioned to Net-Zero by 2050 and the Cop26 Declaration states that by 2040 all new cars manufactured will be zero emission.

One deterring factor against the transition to EV is ultimately down to the limited charge point access when out and about. With most EV owners working in full-time employment, some of your employees may already be driving EV vehicles, or certainly considering a switch.

Here are 4 reasons to consider installing EV chargers at your workplace:

Convenience for Employees

With 68% of Scots commuting to work by car, one of the main obstacles for drivers looking to switch to EV is the fact that they have limited access to charge points. Installing workplace chargers would eliminate range anxiety by ensuring the EV has enough charge to be able to drive to and from work. Small adjustments like these have a huge impact on employee productivity, as you immediately eliminate their first stress of the day.

Employee Engagement & Satisfaction

A study showed that employee engagement increases productivity by up to 21% per year. One contributing factor to employee engagement is the fact that they feel they are being listened to. EV charge points are a great way to demonstrate you are in tune with the cultural and environmental shift in focus of late within society. Not only will it help you to retain existing staff, but it is likely to attract new staff too.

Reducing Your Carbon Footprint

It is no surprise that businesses have begun to prioritise their carbon footprint. Not only does a pledge to improve sustainability contribute to the climate crisis, but it also provides for a competitive edge amongst similar counterparts. By offering workplace charging, you are encouraging employees to switch to EV and, in turn, making the transition as smooth as possible by providing charging facilities. Carbon emissions can quickly accumulate when you have a number of employees driving to work; encouraging the transition will make a serious impact.

Benefit from Workplace Grants

The Workplace Charging Scheme provides support towards costs of the installation of EV charge points to workplaces. Ran by OZEV, it is a voucher-based scheme and allows the applicant to claim £350 per socket installed, up to 40 sockets across all sites. This grant is unlikely to run forever, so getting in now can save businesses with car parking facilities the inevitable future costs that are likely to incur with more people purchasing EV cars.
