It can take anything from 30 mins to 12 hours to charge an electric car at home. The size of your vehicle and speed of the charging point affect the rate at which your vehicle charges.

It will take just under eight hours to fully charge a 60kEh battery with a 7kW charging point. 

An average charging point will provide approx. 15-30 miles of range per hour of charge.

It is rare for an electric car to need a complete re-charge, as they will often have energy stored and will need a ‘top-up’.

Once installed, you pay for the electricity used to charge the vehicle on your normal tariff.

If we say the average electricity rate in the UK is 14p per kWH, then a fully charged Nissan Leaf battery will cost approx. £4-6 (depending on peak and off-peak tariffs). Based on 40kWh battery and a 3kW charging point.
